I'm not sure why this place got rated so well. Went in with some coworkers for lunch. My portent of things to come was that it was 12p and there was only one couple in the entire restaurant. We sat down around a hibachi grill and, after ordering our drinks, we asked the server to turn up the heat because it was honestly FREEZING in the restaurant. I think it was warmer outside (in November!). She said no and said the place would get too hot with the grill on. So we sat and froze until we got our appetizers. A few other people ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, the crab rangoons and some kind of steak maki roll. The coconut shrimp were dissapointing and the sauce was sickeningly sweet. The crab rangoons were horrendous. The waitress had warned they made them a little sweeter than normal, but this was disgustingly sweet. The steak roll thing was... eh. Ok. We ordered hibachi lunches and most of it was ok and edible. The vegetables were decent and the fried rice was good. Of course, with the amount of butter they put in, it better be good! I ordered the shrimp meal and I refused to finish the shrimp because they were horribly overcooked. It was like eating some kind of shrimp-flavored rubber. I left most of it there. The staff was ok. Honestly, I would have rather eaten almost anywhere else. Ick.

I was there for the second time yesterday. It's ok if you like the enternainment restaurant but the food (Hibachi) tastes like a typical Chinese-American greesy foods. Sushi rolls were actually better than I've expected.

We had a graduate party there. Went in a couple weeks before to set up everything for about 35 people, told no problem no problem! The wait staff was great! The food was very good. But the owners not very nice! Very grouchy, not friendly when cooking the food. One of my tables did not get their food cook till after the first two tables were done. Try to explain to owner not acceptable, but all they did was yell short a cook! Not sorry nothing! It was kinda of embarrassing and I will not recommend this place for large groups! They gave me a 25.00 gift card to come back. Not what I would have done if I was the owner!

Had dinner here last night for my birthday! We made a 6:30 reservation arrived on time and were sat in about 5 mins. Atmosphere clean and decorative...A little chilly due to the fact that they cook table side and run the fans so maybe bring a sweater! Very friendly and attentive staff...were served drinks right away and ordered quickly...Cocktails were tasty and reasonably priced. We ordered two appetizers...Gyoza great....Calamari only okay. We had Hibachi and Tempura...Hibachi Chef was entertaining and food was delicious with plenty to take home...I had Steak and Shrimp Hibachi ($25) served with ginger salad, soup, noodles, fried rice and veggies! Soooo good! My picky father in law really enjoyed it too! As it was my Bday my fam had them bring me a slice of cake and the whole table sang! Very nice evening and overall a great dining experience!

Close by the movie theatre, Samurai steak house seems the perfect spot for Hibachi cooking when that hits the spot for date date, but sadly this establishment provides some of the worst Hibachi cooking i have eaten. The mood is set when you enter the door, its gloomy, way to dark i think subdues lighting is OK but gloomy does nothing for me. The food is formulaic & on on the 2 times i have eaten there the service is unenthusiastic.

The food is very good. Just like we expected. Been to many hibachi steak houses. Unfortunately wether employees like it or not, it is an attraction, it's a show. The cheesier and flamboyant the better. There was nothing but business here. I could see the detest in the chefs eyes when "yum yum sauce" was mentioned. Sorry guy, Benihana sold you out long ago. So....attentive wait service, good food, no show.

The food was as good as any other normal hibachi place, but the show was terrible. It really wasn't a show, just food prepared in front of you, as the chef made no effort to entertain or interact with the guests. It's good food but the experience is not worth the price.

Our server was very nice, but I felt that the food was way overpriced for the quality.

I liked the sushi I had thier, It wasn't the best but I've had much worse. The plus with a steak house is you always have a meat option for those who don't eat raw fish

my first time visiting here as a big group and i will never go back there to eat. it took us literally more than 40minutes to get our checks and we were the only ones there. the foods were very salty but the chef was very energetic and he kept everyone in my table entertained.

The fish is extremely fresh and the presentation is perfection. Hibachi is always on point. Everything is delicious, and the service is great! Have been coming here for years and will continue to.

Hubby had to talk me into going to Samurai Steak House. It doesn't look like anything special from the outside - it's in a strip mall and the storefront is nothing special. The interior is nicely appointed, with beautiful wood accents, including a curvy wooden ceiling that it quite impressive. The hostess gave us our choice to sit in the hibachi room or in the dining room. Once we confirmed we could order from the hibachi without sitting in that room, we chose the dining room. We were seated in a comfortable booth that felt cosy and private because of the high back. The wall the booth was against was translucent glass, so we could see the light from the hibachi flames - very cool. I ordered edamame, miso soup, and the crunch roll. Hubby ordered hibachi steak and shrimp, with a side order of fried rice. I had plum wine; hubby had Sapporo. The edamame was exactly what one would expect. The soup was good, and the crunch roll was delicious (although I don't think it was really a crunch roll, because it wasn't tempura). The plum wine was a terrific accompaniment my meal. It was sweet, but with a citrusy finish that complemented the spice of the (alleged) crunch roll. Hubby's entire meal (which he generously allowed me to share) was absolutely yummy! The shrimp was grilled to perfection, the steak was tender, and the fried rice was some of the best I've ever eaten. The soba noodles that came with the meal were also tasty, dressed lightly with a teriyaki sauce. Boy, am I glad I let hubby talk me into eating here! We will be back. My dad is a huge hibachi fan and this place is a great alternative to Benihana, which I find overly kitschy.

In the middle of a strip mall off Haggerty, not that noticeable from the road. Its a bigger place once inside, but it;s done up in early American Japanese style. We came for sushi, and that's what we got. They have a good selection of rolls and options, numbering 50-60 - different combinations. Not to many exotic options, but if you liked Tuna, fresh water eel, shrimp or salmon then you can have a field day with your options. The one downside of the restaurant, and only the 3 stars was the services was slow. First there was only one sushi chef for a Friday night. The sushi was good and fresh, but it took over 40 minutes to prepare. The other negative was the wait staff wasn't as helpful/pleasant as they should have been. I felt like they were doing us a favor by serving us - from get the drinks to chop sticks - they seem put out.

Stopped in for Sushi on a Monday night. Main restaurant was nearly empty (don't know about the Hibachi side), Server was polite but glum, not welcoming at all. We ordered salads, soup, and Sushi. The salads and soup took about 15 minutes to arrive; pretty sure the server had forgotten about the, because the Sushi followed about two minutes later. Even worse, he set the soup bowls down with his thumb IN the soup. Unacceptable. Also, he didn't check on us once during our dinner. That said, the Sushi was excellent. So, five stars for food, one star for service.

Went in to SSH for our anniversary dinner. We have been seriously jonesing for some good sushi! We sat at the sushi bar (where you always get better attention of the chef), and ordered several different items. We started off with an ice-cold Sapporo in frosted glasses, side salads with excellent ginger dressing, and the chef made us a secret free appetizer that was a salad with different pieces of sashimi, octopus, lobster, roe, caviar, and rice noodles. It was delicious and looked as good as it tasted! Next we got a "sushi for 1" which came with two pieces each of yellowtail, whitefish, tuna, salmon, and a tuna roll. It also had an extra serving of Mackerel, and we added two each of Ebi & Hotategai (which were fabulous!!!!). Everything was of the highest quality and we were VERY pleased. We then ordered a "terminator roll" which is Spicy lobster inside & cucumber inside then topped with avocado with chef's spicy sauce on top. It was so good we ordered another! By this time we were stuffed, so we had to call it a night. I'm already thinking about the next time we can go there! The sushi chef was VERY nice and professional. The waitress was a bit less so (I think she was put out that we were sitting at the sushi bar). Overall it was a great experience!

Ok, so updating my review to a 5 star based on my most recent experience. My boyfriend and I went here for lunch on Monday to celebrate the fact that I finally found a job near him (going to migrate from Illinois). So we were both super excited and hungry. The hibachi room was mostly empty, there were two guys finishing up a business lunch, but they left about 10 minutes after we got there. It was great being just the two of us in the room. I got the hibachi scallop lunch and the bf got the hibachi beef lunch. I also tried the Pineapple Surprise, which is a delicious drink that I need to recreate at a party. The salad and soup was yummy, as usual. (Though I do have an obsession with ginger). The chef came out and said he was new. He seemed a bit frazzled, and had to run back twice to refill different bottles on the cart. He chatted with us a bit as he cooked, and that was nice. He was happy and seemed a bit excited to cook for us. He cooked everything magnificently. Seriously. It was the best hibachi cooking I've had in years. It beat every other time I visited Samurai. My scallops were great, the rice was amazing, I devoured it asap, and the veggies were still crisp. The bf was also very happy with his steak. I didn't even mind the fact that we didn't get the mustard or ginger sauce put out. The food didn't need it. Oh happy day. So I think I'm just going to frequent Samurai on Monday lunch shifts because this man made me so happy. I even liked the ginger salad dressing better this time. And the chef put on a great show. The volcano was huge, and gushed steam for a few minutes afterwards.

I eat in here pretty much on a weekly basis. Samurai is located close to a movie theater and lots of retail. The hibachi is wonderful and reasonably priced. The sushi is very americanized but delicious, and they offer an all you can eat deal from time to time, which I highly recommend. Service is prompt and I rarely have to wait more than a few minutes to be seated and served. If you're out shopping at costco or target or whatever..pop in here for lunch. You won't be disappointed.

This is probably the best sushi I have had in West Bloomfield. ( and I say West Bloomfield because there is better sushi in surrounding areas)-I haven't tried their hibachi-we just went there for sushi- and everything was pretty good. I tried the Vegas Roll which was really tasty, as well as the soft shell crab appetizer ( one of my favorites).

This place is really good! The service was funny and friendly, and we didn't feel rushed at all. We tried a bunch of different sushi rolls, and were very pleased. The waiter recommended a couple that were amazing. 4 stars only because the place could use an update. Kind of old fashioned and worn out looking.

This restaurant is located in a strip mall i frequent and I always wondered about it. The interior is rather dark and dismal but rather spacious. The sushi we ordered was good, nothing spectacular but good nonetheless. However, the service was lackluster. Our waiter acted as though he was rushed or annoyed when we asked for additional things and just had a general "can't-be-bothered" demeanor. Service is always something that depends on who actually serves you which varies obviously. Regardless I would return if I was in the area, though probably for takeout only.

Love the Samurai! We go there for lunch almost every week. The hibachi is great, reasonably priced - better than Benihana's - and the sushi is excellent. Very friendly owner/staff too. Highly recommended.

i've been here 2x and everytime has been great. their hibatchi lunch/dinner prices are fairly reasonable compared to other places in the greater metro detroit area. the decor is inviting with staff that are amiable and welcoming. the hibatchi portions are HUGE compared to what i've had. not only do you get the typical miso soup, salad and shrimp appetizer, but you get noodles, too! usually i can finish my meal in one sitting at a hibatchi restaurant, not this one. be prepared to get a doggie bag!
